Thankfulness for Being Unique (Comic Strip Style)

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

You were made by the greatest Artist ever!!

That’s a phrase I’ve been saying to myself lately, and maybe it’s something you and your kiddos need to hear too. Every little interest, every quirk, every “random” thing you love to do in your free time—it all matters. Those are clues to how God wired you and how He might want to use you in the world.

Think about it:

  • What do you enjoy making or creating?

  • What kinds of things do you research or want to learn about—just for fun?

  • What comes so naturally to you that you hardly notice it until someone else points it out?

All of those things are little pieces of the puzzle. They can help you discover the unique ways God designed you to shine His light.

Sometimes we overlook our uniqueness because we are focused on other things. But the truth is, God already gave you the tools you need to fulfill His desires for your life. The question is: are you paying attention to those clues?

One of the best ways to start is with gratitude. When we stop and say, “Thank You, God, for making me me, and making me unique” it changes how we see ourselves. Instead of wishing we were different, we can celebrate the gifts we’ve been given and ask God to show us how to use them.

That’s why I created a fun, free resource for kids (and the kid in all of us!): a Thankfulness Comic Strip you can download and print. It’s a hands-on way to help them see that being unique isn’t just “okay”—it’s something worth celebrating and giving thanks for.

I encourage you to sit down with your kids (or even just with your own journal) and walk through the questions together:

  • What do I like to do in my free time?

  • Why might those interests be part of God’s plan for me?

  • What steps can I take to nurture those desires?

  • What do other people notice about me that is good?

This past Sunday, as I served in our church nursery, I giggled with the babies who just LOVE seeing themselves in the big mirror at their height. What if part of having a child-like faith means we get to look in the mirror and giggle with our Heavenly Father because we are precious artwork, created uniquely in His image, created to love how he formed us.

Partnering with the Greatest Artist ever means that the unique things He put in each of us can have an impact right where we stand and hopefully as far as the “ends of the earth”. Let’s choose thankfulness for the way He made us and GO!!! Matthew 28:18-20

The more we practice thankfulness for the way God made us, the more confidence we’ll have to step into a partnership that nurtures His unique purpose for us. As your creativity shines, so does He. Let your light shine! Matthew 5:16

So go ahead, download the comic strip, grab some colored pencils, and say it with me:  “I’m Thankful That I’m Unique!”
