Rise & Shine, Me Hearties!
Written by: Bethany J. Baldwin, www.MADsocietyInc.com
Basic Plot: Improv on the Stage! Pirates have a morning routine just like the rest of us…but theirs is a little more…peculiar. A little more “entertaining.” A little more…FUNNY! This skit requires no practicing, just a little prep by one narrator who gets to facilitate the fun.
Genre: Improvisation Comedy
Male, Female or Either: all can be either
Length of skit: 3-10 minutes
Who: This is an opportunity for the entire cast and crew to interpret a story that is read to them providing funny improv and energy to the Variety Show without prep work.
What: This is a performance consisting of a story that 1 designated student or adult will read out loud, while the rest of the cast and crew act out the story on stage. There is no prep work. It should be spontaneous.
Why: This is an act that will provide more content for your Variety Show without the typical prepwork of a play or skit. It’s also wonderful for bonding within the group to do something all together and include the crew.
When: This ‘act’ will be integrated into the Variety Show performance line up to provide uniqueness to the feel of the show.
Where: This ‘act’ will be performed on stage, as a group.
Pick 1 reader/narrator to be the leads for this performance. The Narrator is the only student allowed to read this story before the performance. If you pick a student, make sure they are a confident reader. Narrator, you should read this story slowly, pausing when the acting on stage is good, moving to the next sentence when things settle. Make sure you are loud or use a microphone.
Read this page of instructions to the whole group so they understand what they will be doing.
Print this document and only give it to the reader/narrator. The actors must follow any instructions read during the story. The length of the ‘act’ will depend on how fast the narrator reads and how long they pause if the actors are entertaining enough.
★This Improv Skit can be purchased individually or as part of a themed stage performance bundle for sale on Teachers Pay Teachers titled Variety Show Bundle “Pirate Raid!” or Year Long Mega Bundle “Pirate Raid!”
